Come and Celebrate Mo's 20th Anniversary

Alec Mapa and Dana Goldberg "Stand Up" for SD Pride

HRC San Diego and Svedka Vodka are presenting an amazing show to kick off Pride Weekend here in San Diego! Stand Up for Equality is a hilarious night of comedy featuring Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty, Desperate Houswives) and Dana Goldberg (LOGO, Olivia Cruises) being held at the Birch North Park Theatre July 16, 2010. This is going to be a hilarious event to kick off the pride festivities and is guaranteed to be one of the highlights of the entire weekend!

Alec Mapa, the self-proclaimed "Gaysian," will headline the show. Nationally known for his roles in Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, Alec will bring his unique brand of comedy to SD Pride for the first time. Don't miss him dish out his views on love, sex, marriage, and all things "Gaysian". Just don't call him desperate or ugly.

Dana Goldberg, called one of the top lesbian comics in America, will bring her unique take on the world to San Diego. Goldberg has been a headliner on LOGO, Olivia Cruises and Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs. Come hear why she is “hot and bothered.”

The event is for the entire LGBT community, but is restricted to those age 21 and over. "Comedy unites all age groups, genders and races. What's funny is funny," said Lisa Mata, HRC-San Diego Co-Chair. Tickets go on sale May 20, 2010. Until July 1, 2010, VIP tickets are $55, which include premium seating and a post-event meet and greet reception with Mapa and Goldberg. Reserved seating tickets are $28. After July 1, 2010, VIP tickets are $65 and reserved seating tickets are $38.

Honorary Host Reception -- Ugandan Bishop Christopher Senyonjo

The Human Rights Campaign -San Diego and Integrity USA are sponsoring a cocktail reception for Ugandan Bishop Christopher Senyonjo.

The Right Reverend Christopher Senyonjo, is a highly respected Anglican bishop who has risked everything to speak out for the human rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. In the face of overwhelming support for the infamous “kill the gays” bill by Ugandan Anglican priests, Bishop Christopher strongly condemns the bill as a violation of the UN’s Declaration of Human Rights and of the sacred bonds of the Ugandan extended family system by requiring family and neighbors to report their family members for imprisonment and possible execution.

Bishop Christopher has remained steadfast in his defense of the human dignity of LGBT people. In response to his courageous positions he has been expelled from the Church of Uganda and stripped of his income and pension.

Despite this, Bishop Christopher, a married grandfather of 11, continues to speak out. In May and June, he will visit cities in California, Michigan and New York to give US people of faith information about the climate of hate and violence against Ugandans that has escalated while the “anti-homosexuality bill” is pending in Uganda.

The reception will be held at Top of the Park (525 Spruce, 92103) from 6 to 9pm on Wednesday, May 19, 2010.
